Probably the most important cause of Irritable Colon is stress. It occurs at patients who have visceral hypertension and disorder of intestinal barrier. Nervousness, anxiety and uncertainty often lead to cramps, flatulence and gases and irregular bowel discharge. Digestive system is innervated with more than 100 million neurons, which structure resembles the brain cells. Those same neural transmitters that exist in the brain (serotonin, dopamine) are present in the digestive tract as well!
